Coverpearls Course Outline:
The 'Coverpearls Method' is about developing a deeper understanding of the many factors that contribute to stylistic musical contexts - and, ultimately, discovering the 'practice space' - within your own music library - that will allow you to develop your own style to complement the songs you are learning.
The 'Coverpearls Course' can be thought of as being divided into three (3) important sections:
* The Masters' Language
* Rhythmic Nesting & Meter
* Tunes
1) The Masters' Language:
--------------------------------------------
'The Masters' Language' is a short lesson series on the recognition and implementation of fundamental thematic elements that occur in nature - and can be heard (or felt) in any composition. Developing a facility with this line of listening in your practice will allow you great freedom in improvisation. The concepts presented here will allow you to make any familiar progression or tune your own.
For guitarists in the early stages of intermediacy; the lessons continue into supplemental sections that detail thematic elements of the fretboard. I make an attempt in these supplemental sections to progress from the most relevant (common) practices - to the more abstract (intellectual) exercises. Many of these supplemental videos are 'reposted' on the "Axioms" page of this website.
2) Rhythmic Nesting & Meter:
---------------------------------------------
This subject is, perhaps, the most overlooked aspect of our development as musicians. As guitarists, there is so much to learn about Fretboard Harmony, Scales, and Position Playing that we often miss the importance of developing a rhythmic ear that is geared for detail. If we don't have a complete conception of how rhythmic values can be 'nested' within a measure of music - it is likely we will never develop the necessary ear to relate - mentally and physically - to the complex ideas involved in modern lead guitar playing.
3) Tunes:
----------------
The 'Coverpearls Course' is a conceptual study for the advancing intermediate guitar player. It is a course that is, largely, focused on lead guitar - and is designed for the student that is familiar with Major Scales, Modes, Pentatonic Scales, and Diatonic Triads. It's my intention to reveal unique Scale/Chord relationships and demonstrate the various contexts that are available for lead guitar practice using the tonal progressions that occur in a selection of familiar tunes. Mastery of these concepts will open the gates to an understanding of how to develop a realistic approach to negotiating many tunes… including your own.
